Ferries and Cruises Between Germany and Sweden

Germany and Sweden are well-connected by passenger and cargo ferries. There are at least four regular ferry routes connecting Germany and Sweden. In Germany, ferries depart Kiel, Lübeck (Travemünde) and Rostock ports. In Sweden, ferries depart from Gothenburg, Malmö, and Trelleborg. Taking a ferry from Germany to Sweden can be a faster, more convenient way than driving through Denmark. Many ferries offer night departures, making it extremely convenient.

Ferry Routes

Route Note
Rostock to Trelleborg One of the most popular routes between Germany and Sweden. Between Stena Line and TT-Line, there are many departures throughout the day and overnight.
Kiel to Gothenburg A niche route connecting Kiel to Sweden's second largest city. Stena Line operates this route with a daily overnight ferry. During peak times, a second ferry can be added to the route, giving two departures per day in each direction.
Lübeck/Travemünde to Malmö Finnlines connects Lübeck (Travemünde harbor) to Malmö, with 2-3 departures per day in each direction. This route is very focused on cargo and truck drivers, though ordinary passengers are also welcome. Malmö is located just on the other side of the Øresund Bridge from Copenhagen.

The main ferry operators between Germany and Sweden are Stena Line, Finnlines and TT-Line. The onboard experience can vary widely depending on the specific route, time of year, and ship. Generally the ferry routes between Finland and Sweden are more utilitarian comparing to other routes in the Baltic Sea.
